Finances and Transport
The Learner Support Fund is a sum of money from the Learning & Skills Council for use by students of the College. The fund is open to any student who meets the criteria.
The fund is designed to offer some financial support to students who could not afford to attend College without it and can possibly make payments to support:
- Childcare costs
- Examination/BTEC/AVCE/GNVQ/NVQ registration fees
- Transport costs
- Kit + material costs
Students who think they may qualify should obtain an application form from the Learner Support Fund, EMA & Transport Co-ordinator in the Student Services Office
EMA is a weekly payment worth up to £30 for students who are aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August 2008 and planning to continue in further education from September 2008. There are also bonuses of £100 if you remain on your course and make good progress with your learning. Payments will be made direct to your bank account. Subsidised transport for full-time students who are under the age of 19 at the start of their course and living at least three miles from College is provided by Cambridgeshire County Council. The CCC charge for 2008/09 will be £120 per term paid termly in advance. Bus passes are issued by Cambs County Council. Details are available at www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk
Free transport is available to students in families qualifying for Income Support, Income Based Jobseeker’s Allowance, or Working Tax Credit, subject to status.
The tickets are valid only for home to College transport during term time and by the ticket holder on the designated route. Replacement passes may be purchased.
