What are HNCs and HNDs?

HNCs (Higher National Certificate) and HNDs (Higher National Diploma) are university level qualifications. They are a great platform for either going straight into employment or going into the final year of a university course, enabling you to obtain a full bachelors degree.

The difference between a HNC/D and a bachelors degree is that a HNC/D offers you a more practical, hands-on learning style. University courses focus on the knowledge of a particular subject, whereas a HNC/D focuses on the skills you need to perform a particular job.

Assessment is carried out through practical tasks and projects you complete throughout the year, so there are no formal exams you have to sit!

How long do they take to complete?

If you are studying a HNC full-time it will take you one year to complete, if you choose to study part-time it will take two years to complete. A HND will take 2 years full-time to complete.
