Construction

The Construction industry is a huge sector with a wide variety of roles and at Huntingdonshire Regional College you can choose to study from a range of programmes including brickwork, carpentry, electrical, heating and ventilation (plumbing) and multi-trade.

In January 2013 we opened our brand new, purpose built construction facilities at the Huntingdon campus. Within the workshops there are dedicated areas for heating and ventilation (plumbing), carpentry, electrical and brick. The workshops have been designed to give you a real work atmosphere and a taste of what is to come when you go into employment.

During your time at college you will get the opportunity to work on real life projects for the local community. This will give you a chance to put what you have learnt in the workshops into practice. Many of our students have helped local social firms with their maintenance and have been involved in small building projects for local schools.

With all of our construction courses you can study on a basis which suits you. This may be through a full-time course or on a part-time course including day release, evening courses or even an apprenticeship.

All levels of learning are available, whether you are looking for a qualification to train for a new skill or simply learn ‘just for fun.’ In addition we offer industry specialist training such as Asbestos Awareness, Health and Safety, Ladder Safety, Electrical Testing, Use of Power Tools and many others.
All of our construction courses are delivered at the Huntingdon campus on California Road, Huntingdon.

Level 2 Electrician Training

Before coming to Huntingdonshire Regional College I studied Politics, Business and Economics at Sawtry Sixth Form College. After completing my A Levels I started to think about my future career and knew I wanted to do something more hands-on so decided to follow in my dad's and grandad's footsteps and take a course in electrical.

My sixth form advisor reccommended the Huntingdonshire Regional College course and I am really glad I chose to come here. I like how the course is not as theory based as my A Levels were and I really enjoy the amount of practical work involved on the course. The tutors are really helpful and they have so much industry knowledge and experience - which really helps with our learning.

My class mates are a mixture of age groups which means we have a variety of maturities in every lesson. I think this creates a great atmosphere and prepares us for the world of work - it is such a different environment to school or sixth form.

After finishing the course I am hoping to go onto the Level 3 course or start an Apprenticeship. In the future I want to be an Electrical Engineer like my Grandad was.
