Hair & Beauty apprenticeships

Working in hairdressing or beauty therapy requires dedication and hard work and requires the learning of a vast array of skills.

It helps to be a “people person” as you will need to provide clients with great customer service. The career opportunities are endless. Most apprentices start in a local hairdressing or beauty salon, learning the trade and skills. Career pathways can lead apprentices to work in hotels and spa facilities, on cruise ships or even starting your own business.

Aged 16-64? It’s never too early or late to become an apprentice. They can be the ideal way to develop your career path no matter what your circumstances may be.

Learn through practical experience in a professional salon and gain an understanding of how you can achieve success in your specialist area. Advice and guidance will be readily available from your employer and you will benefit from receiving regular feedback on your progress. Your college assessor will also provide learning support and be responsive to your needs as you develop in your role.

Earn while you learn

You will earn a wage, just like any other employee of the company you work for. The national apprenticeship minimum wage is currently £3.30 per hour and you may be paid more, depending on your employer. The average apprentice wage is £170 per week. If you are a second year of your apprenticeship, aged 19 or over, you will receive the National Minimum Wage.

Competence Qualification

An apprenticeship framework comprises a number of elements, either a separate competence and knowledge qualification, or in some cases a combined qualification, functional skills in English and maths and in some cases, ICT, employee rights and responsibilities and personal learning & thinking skills. Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy apprentices attend college for day release to learn and practice their skills in our salon which is open to the public. Skills learned at college can then be demonstrated in the workplace. Our specialist staff are on hand to provide advice, guidance and support to enable you to find the best apprenticeship to suit your career goals.

On average, Apprentices earn £100k more than other employees in their lifetime.

I enjoy the practical side of the course & learning new designs and techniques.
