Caring Professions apprenticeships

The caring professions offer apprenticeships across a vast array of career pathways, including childcare and health and social care for adults.

Working in a variety of settings, including nurseries and playgroups, hospitals and care homes for the elderly. Career progression is encouraged with many apprentices using an apprenticeship as a stepping stone to clinical specialist roles, management within a health & social care setting or nursery manager.

An apprenticeship could be your best option if you are a school leaver, an employee looking for new qualifications, or wanting a career change.

You will gain new skills in a workplace environment and develop your skills, knowledge and understanding of what is required to progress in that industry. Support will be available from your employer and they match your training to your skills and objectives. The college will support your learning and assist when needed with your apprenticeship role.

Earn while you learn

As an apprentice you are essentially an employee of the organisation and will receive a wage and paid holiday. All apprentices are entitled to the national apprenticeship minimum wage, currently £3.30 per hour, and some employers may pay more. The average apprentice wage is £170 per week. You will be entitled to the National Minimum Wage if you are aged over 19 and in the second year of your apprenticeship.

Competence Qualification

An apprenticeship framework consists of a number of elements – either a separate competence and knowledge qualification or, in some cases, a combined qualification; functional skills in English and maths and, in some cases, ICT; employee rights and responsibilities; and personal learning & thinking skills. Several frameworks such as Dental Nursing have external exams to complete. Our specialist staff are on hand to provide advice, guidance and support to enable you to find the best apprenticeship to suit your career goals.

800,000

There currently more than 800,000 apprentices who are earning and learning.

It’s very rewarding to work with people in need of care.
