Cambridge Regional College offers a range of Hair, Beauty & Barbering Apprenticeships at both Level 2 and Level 3. 

Hairdressing (Hair Professional)

Overview

The Hair Professional Level 2 Apprenticeships are ideal for those wishing to start a career in hairdressing or barbering and provides the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected of junior hairdressers/barbers by their employers and clients. Apprentices will learn how to carry out customer consultations;shampoo, cut, and style hair; as well as safe working practices. Upon completion of the Level 2 Apprenticeship, Cambridge Regional College offers the Level 3 Apprenticeship.

Suitable Job Roles

To start this Apprenticeship, a learner must have a suitable job role for example; trainee hairdresser/barber. As the learner progresses and completes the Level 2 Apprenticeship, other suitable job roles will be relevant such as senior stylist or salon manager.

Duration

Each Level takes approximately 24 months to complete.

Course Content

The Hair Professional Apprenticeships’ course content is broken down into knowledge, skills and behaviours and examples of what will be covered include: 

Knowledge & Skills
Apprentices work towards achieving a Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals and will gain knowledge and skills in the following topics:

• Professionalism & Values
• Behaviours & Communication
• Safe Working Practices
• Client Consultation

As well as industry-specific hairdressing skills & knowledge:
• Shampoo, condition and treat hair and scalp
• Cut hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks
• Style and finish hair
• Colour and lighten hair

• Dry and finish men’s hair (Barbering)
• Create basic outlines and detailing in hair (Barbering)
• Fulfil salon reception duties (Barbering)
• Assist with shaving services (Barbering)

Apprentices can also choose a further optional unit:
• Perming hair
• Hair relaxing treatments

Behaviours
Apprentices will learn about the importance of behaviours and attitudes expected of hairdressers towards clients and colleagues and be able to demonstrate them.

Location

The Hair Professional Apprenticeships are delivered at both our Cambridge and Huntingdon Campuses. 

 

Beauty Therapy

Overview

Our Beauty Therapy Apprenticeships are for those wishing to start and develop a career in beauty therapy. The training is designed to provide the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for industry. The Level 2 offers specialist pathways in nail or makeup services; and the Level 3 offers specialist pathways in massage or spa therapy.

Suitable Job Roles

Level 2 – Junior Beauty Therapists, Junior Beauty Consultants, Junior Makeup Artists, Junior Nail Technicians.

Level 3 – Beauty Therapists, Beauty Massage Therapists and Spa Therapists.

Duration

Each Level takes approximately 18 months to complete.

Course Content

The Beauty Apprenticeship course content is broken down into knowledge, skills and behaviours and examples of what will be covered include: 

Knowledge & Skills

Knowledge, Skills & Behaviours
Apprentices will work towards the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy
gaining the knowledge, skills and behaviours required of those working in
industry:

• Ensure responsibility for actions to reduce risks to health and safety
• Promote additional services or products to customers
• Develop and maintain effectiveness at work

Apprentices can also choose to specialise in the following routes:
General Route
• Carry out waxing services
• Provide manicure and pedicure services
• Enhance the appearance of eyebrows and eyelashes
• Provide facial skin care treatment

Makeup Route
• Provide facial skin care treatment
• Enhance the appearance of eyebrows and eyelashes
• Provide make-up services
• Instruct clients in the use and application of skin care products and make-up

Nail Services Route
• Provide manicure, pedicure and nail art services
• Fulfil salon reception duties
• Apply and maintain nail enhancements to create a natural finish

Location

The Beauty Apprentices are delivered at both our Cambridge and Huntingdon Campuses.
